Child Obesity Considered Child Neglect

His name is Alexander Deundray Draper, and he’s 14 years old. He also weighs 555 pounds. That’s not a typo. In addition to the obvious tragedy of being so morbidly obese, the boy’s mother, 49-year-old Jerri Althea Gray, was arrested in Baltimore, MD after fleeing South Carolina for child neglect and failing to appear in court. At the scheduled hearing, the son was ordered into state custody, presumably because of the boy’s health status and apparent weight problem. Authorities said the teen was at a “stage of critical health risk.” After the mother’s arrest, Alex was turned over to the Dept. of Social Services to be taken back to South Carolina.
